The Conservation District of Southern Nevada is interested in building community partnerships to make Clark County a sustainable place to live. CDSN is seeking innovative environmental projects. Fill out our Project Partnership Form to work with CDSN on a sustainability project. Submission of the form does not guarantee partnership with CDSN. This form is for informational purposes only and no contract is implied. Projects selected for further evaluation is at the discretion of CDSN. We look forward to making Clark County sustainable with you!!

-Brower Youth Awards

Administered by Earth Island Institute (EII), under the New Leaders Initiative, the Brower Youth Awards honor environmental youth leadership in conservation, preservation and restoration. EII fosters the efforts of creative individuals by providing organizational support in developing projects for the conservation, preservation, and restoration of the global environment. EII provides activists the opportunity to develop program ideas; providing them with the skills, resources, and relationships to lead effective campaigns and projects.

-Disney's Planet Challenge

Disney's Planet Challenge is a project-based environmental competition for 4th - 6th grade classrooms that empowers students to make a difference in school, at home and in their local communities. With more than 15 years experience running highly-acclaimed classroom environmental competitions in regional markets including California and Florida (as "Disney's Environmentality Challenge®"), Disney developed the new Disney's Planet Challenge in response to growing demand across all 50 states. Program collaborations with the National Science Teacher's Association (NSTA), the WestEd K-12 Alliance, the U.S. and California Environmental Protection Agencies, U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife and the California Department of Education ensure academic and environmental excellence. National, regional and state winners will receive an array of Disney prizes including a class celebration at Disneyland® for the national grand prize champion. Participation in the program is free, and enrollment is open at: Disney's Planet Challenge.

Important Dates: Register by 12/18/09. Projects due by 2/26/10


-Igniting Creative Energy Competition

Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial leader in energy efficiency and sustainability, invites kindergarten through 12th grade students across North America to enter the Igniting Creative Energy competition. The challenge, a program developed and funded by Johnson Controls and the National Energy Foundation is designed to encourage students to learn more about energy and the environment.

-Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) also known as (World Wildlife Fund) and will be held on March 27, 2010 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, local time. This events asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of climate change issues. But there?s more to it than switching off lights for one hour once a year. It?s all about giving people a voice on the future of our planet, and the chance to send a message of hope to world leaders. -40th Anniversary of Earth Day

Earth Day 40 is a pivotal opportunity for people, corporations, and governments to join together to create a global green economy. Our coordinated efforts now will be recognized by future generations as a turning point. The Global Day of Service will feature Volunteer Actions by tens of thousands of global participants on April 22, 2010. These projects in parks, beaches, and forests will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. -The 6th Annual National Sustainable Design Expo

The 6th Annual National Sustainable Design Expo is scheduled to take place on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on April 24 - 26, 2010. This event was created to bring together professional scientists, engineers, and business leaders around innovations designed to advance economic growth while reducing environmental impact. The Expo showcases the innovative designs of the P3 student teams addressing alternative energy technologies, collection, purification and distribution of water, agricultural practices to reduce pesticide run-off, new technologies for green buildings and many more approaches to improve society's sustainability. In addition, it provides a forum for the government, non-profit and business community to demonstrate their diverse approaches to sustainability. -National Pollinator Week

National Pollinator Week which will be observed June 21-27, 2010. The special week is designed to increase public awareness of the importance of pollinators for our food supply and healthy wildlife ecosystems. Pollinator Week is also a good opportunity to learn about the many ways conservation activities can help pollinators. Of particular interest this year is the availability of Ecoregional Planting Guides for Pollinators. These guides provide practical information on selecting plant species that are good for pollinators in a given locality. National Pollinator Week is a project of the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC), a tri-national collaboration facilitated by the Pollinator Partnership. National Association of Conservation Districts has been a partner in this campaign and has jointly sponsored a Pollinator award for producers who are nominated for their efforts to support pollinators.

- 4th Annual Rachel Carson Intergenerational "Sense of Wonder" Contest

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting it's annual contest celebrating Rachel Carson's well known book, Silent Spring that changed the way we look at the use of harmful pesticides. The contest has 4 categories in which you can enter: Photography, Poetry, Dance and Essay. Deadline for entries is June 30, 2010. Winners will be announced in November 2010.
